affordanceの革は本革とわかる自然な風合い、素朴な匂い、
色と質感にもこだわり“しっかりしているけれど柔らかい、しなやかな革”を理想としています。
時と共に柔らかくなり、自然と使う人それぞれに馴染んでいく心地良い感覚。
バラ傷やシミなど素材の自然さが残っていて、革素材の醍醐味である経年変化の幅が大きいのも特徴です。

affordance’s leather has a natural texture that is recognizable as genuine leather, a rustic smell, and we are particular about color and texture, and our ideal is “sturdy yet soft and supple leather.” A comfortable feeling that softens over time and naturally adapts to each user. The natural nature of the material remains, such as scratches and stains, and it also has a wide range of changes over time, which is the best part of leather materials.

革へのこだわり

affordanceで使用している革は、兵庫県たつの市のタンナー(製革業者)に生産を依頼しているベジタブルフルタンニン鞣しの牛革です。原皮の状態や季節などでも仕上がりが変わってくる繊細な革なので、その都度職人さんに相談し安定した品質になるよう調整しています。

The leather used at affordance is full vegetable tanned cowhide that is produced directly by a tanner in Tatsuno City, Hyogo Prefecture. Since it is a delicate leather whose finish changes depending on the condition of the raw hide and the season, we consult with craftsmen each time to make adjustments to ensure stable quality.

日本のタンナー　

日本では、タンナーの認知度はあまり高くありませんが、日本のタンナー職人さんたちの熟練された技術は世界でもトップレベルです。その革の品質は唯一無二の“Japanese Leather”として高い評価を受けています。高い技術力で作られた日本製の革の認知度を高めたい。という思いで、affordanceは一貫して日本のタンナーで作られる革を使用しています。タンナー職人さんを知ってもらうことがより良い素材作り/商品作りに繋がると考えます。

In Japan, the job of tanner is not very well known. However, the highly skilled techniques of Japanese tanners are among the best in the world. The quality of the leather is highly praised as the one and only “Japanese Leather”. With the desire to “increase awareness of Japanese-made leather made with high technology,” affordance consistently uses leather made by Japanese tanners to produce products without waste. Craftsmen like me who make leather into products, craftsmen who turn leather into leather, and other craftsmen work together to create better materials.

革の一番の魅力は、使う人それぞれの個性がその物に刻まれる経年変化です。
また、丈夫で永くお使いいただけるのも革素材の大きな特徴です。

タンナーの職人さんに相談しながら色味や質感の微調整を重ね、affordanceだけのオリジナル革素材が生まれています。

余すことなく革を活用

牛が生きていたときについた傷やシミなどで定番製品に使えなくなってしまった革や、制作過程で生じた端切れを無駄にしないよう工夫して制作しています。いつもと違った形で制作している品を「re:affordance」として発表しています。

We make our products from leather that can no longer be used for standard products due to scratches and stains on the cow when it was alive, and scraps of leather from the production process. We present the products produced in unusual ways as “re:affordance.
