affordanceの革は本革とわかる自然な風合い、素朴な匂い、
色と質感にもこだわり“しっかりしているけれど柔らかい、しなやかな革”を理想としています。
時と共に柔らかくなり、自然と使う人それぞれに馴染んでいく心地良い感覚。
バラ傷やシミなど素材の自然さが残っていて、革素材の醍醐味である経年変化の幅が大きいのも特徴です。

affordance’s leather has a natural texture that is recognizable as genuine leather, a rustic smell, and we are particular about color and texture, and our ideal is “sturdy yet soft and supple leather.” A comfortable feeling that softens over time and naturally adapts to each user. The natural nature of the material remains, such as scratches and stains, and it also has a wide range of changes over time, which is the best part of leather materials.

革素材づくり

affordanceで使用している革は、兵庫県たつの市のタンナー(製革業者)に生産を依頼しているベジタブルフルタンニン鞣しの牛革です。革は動物の皮から生まれる天然素材であること、それを作り出す日本の職人や製造現場への敬意を大切にし、素材づくりに携わっています。
原皮の状態や季節などでも仕上がりが変わってくる繊細な革素材。
素材作りの過程ではタンナーの職人たちと相談を重ね、色味や質感の微調整を繰り返し、affordanceだけのオリジナル革素材が生まれています。

The leather used by affordance is vegetable-tanned cowhide, which is produced by a tanner in Tatsuno, Hyogo Prefecture. We value the fact that leather is a natural material made from animal skin, and we respect the Japanese craftsmen and manufacturing sites that create it, and we are involved in the creation of the material. Leather is a delicate material, and the finished product changes depending on the condition of the raw hide and the season. During the material creation process, we consult with the tannery craftsmen many times, repeatedly fine-tuning the color and texture, and creating original leather materials exclusive to affordance.

日本のタンナー　

日本ではタンナーの認知度は高くありませんが、日本のタンナー職人が持つ熟練の技術は世界でもトップクラスです。その品質は唯一無二の「Japanese Leather」として高く評価されています。高い技術力を誇る日本製の革の認知度をさらに高めたいという思いから、affordanceは一貫して日本のタンナーが製作する革を使用しています。タンナー職人の存在を広く知ってもらうことが、より良い素材作りや商品作りに繋がると考えています。

Tanners are not well known in Japan, but the skilled techniques of Japanese tanners are among the best in the world. Their quality is highly regarded as the one and only “Japanese Leather”. Affordance has consistently used leather made by Japanese tanners, as we want to further increase awareness of Japanese leather, which boasts high technical skills. We believe that raising awareness of the existence of tanners will lead to the creation of better materials and products.

革の一番の魅力は、使う人それぞれの個性がその物に刻まれる経年変化です。
また、丈夫で永くお使いいただけるのも革素材の大きな特徴です。

The most attractive thing about leather is how it changes over time, allowing the individuality of each person to wear it to be imprinted on the item. Another great feature of leather material is that it is durable and can be used for a long time.

余すことなく革を活用

牛が生きていたときについた傷やシミなどで定番製品に使えなくなってしまった革や、制作過程で生じた端切れを無駄にしないよう工夫して制作しています。いつもと違った形で制作している品を「re:affordance」として発表しています。

We make our products from leather that can no longer be used for standard products due to scratches and stains on the cow when it was alive, and scraps of leather from the production process. We present the products produced in unusual ways as “re:affordance.
